1. Who We Are
Trailnode ("we", "us", or "our") is a platform that helps high school students discover extracurricular opportunities and plan their academic journey. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
2. Information We Collect
Account information. When you sign up with email, we collect your email address and the name and grade level you provide. Passwords are managed securely by our authentication provider and are not visible to us. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google.
Your content. We store the opportunities you save, your roadmap (nodes and connections), and application-tracking data, so they sync across your devices.
Technical & security data. Our hosting and security providers automatically process standard technical data such as your IP address, browser/device type, and request logs to operate the Service and prevent abuse.
What we do not collect. We do not collect payment information, government IDs, or special-category sensitive data, and we do not knowingly collect any data from children under 13.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information only to provide and improve the Service: creating and securing your account, storing your roadmap and saved opportunities, showing relevant listings, and preventing abuse. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
4. AI and Your Data
We do not intentionally use your account information, saved items, or roadmap data to train third-party AI models. AI systems are primarily used to process opportunity listings and related content (for example, summarizing or scoring programs), not your personal data.
5. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored with Supabase, a third-party database and authentication provider, on servers in the United States. Access is protected with row-level security so each account can only reach its own data, and data is encrypted in transit. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We retain your data while your account is active and delete it (or anonymize it) within a reasonable time after an account deletion request, unless retention is required for legal, security, or operational purposes.
6. Third-Party Services
We rely on the following providers, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- Supabase: database and authentication
- Google OAuth: optional sign-in method
- Vercel: website hosting and request logs
- Groq: AI model used to compile and update opportunity listings (not your personal data)
7. Cookies
We use cookies only for essential functions, primarily to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
8. Children's Privacy
Trailnode is intended for users 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it promptly. Users under 18 should use Trailnode with a parent or guardian's involvement.
Parents or guardians who believe a minor has provided information inappropriately may contact us at any time to request review or deletion of that information.
9. Your Rights & Choices
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data (including deletion of your account and associated data), and you may ask what data we hold about you. To exercise any of these, email us at the address below; we will respond within a reasonable time (generally within 30 days). Depending on your location, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. We will make reasonable efforts to honor privacy requests where applicable.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy occasionally. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of Trailnode after changes constitutes acceptance.
